CITY OF PORT ADELAIDE
MAYOR'S REPORT.
TO THE MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL.
Gentlemen,—I have pleasure in presenting my
Annual Report for the year ending 1924-25.
It is most gratifying that the year just ended has
been a record so far as this City is concerned; progress
is shown on all sides, and it must be pleasing to citi
zens to see their City making rapid improvement.
One is not unmindful of those who. in the early days
of Port Adelaide and suburbs, battled manfully with the
huge problems that confronted them, and pioneered the
destinies of this, the third most important seaport of a
vast Commonwealth. To those gentlemen and others
who have sen'ed in like manner, we render this small
tribute.
WOODBLOCKING.
The Council's policy in regard to woodblocking has
proved a sound proposition. During the year North
Parade was paved, also McLaren Parade. Money thus
expended during the year amounted to £13,907 6/9. Dur
ing the last two and a half years to £43,959 12/4. Barlow
Street, Todd Street and Bower Crescent are now in
hand, to cost £8.500; other streets will receive attention
through the coming year. So far as South Australia is
concerned, the total amount of woodblocking done in our
City constitutes a record outside the capital of the State.
To Aldermen J.Anderson and J.H.Glouston,and the
City Engineer (Mr. W. W. Tapp), the Council extend
appreciation for the time they have devoted to the wood-
blocking schemes of this City.
