Use the green

bin for food

waste to reduce

household waste

and lighten the

landfill load.

‘‘

O

ur 2018 kerbside audit found 64% of

materials from our blue lid wheelie

bins should have been placed into a

yellow or green lid wheelie bin to be recycled

or composted.

We also found that food waste made up 33% of

these materials which were sent to landfill.

So we encourage recycling and composting, as it

is better for our environment than landfill.

In addition, waste going into landfill is now

very heavily taxed by the South Australian

Government.

The SolidWaste Levy has been applied as a

way to encourage recycling and as a financial

incentive to create local jobs and increase

resource recovery.

This tax will increase to $140 per tonne on

1 January 2020 which means that for the

estimated 27,850 tonnes of waste from PAE

going to landfill in the next financial year we will

be paying a SolidWaste Levy of $3.48 million.

So we need your help to not only reduce

landfill, but to also reduce these costs.

The best way to reduce household waste to

landfill is to use the green bin for food waste.

We provide kitchen caddies and compostable

bags free of charge to make it easy for you

to put your food waste into the green bin.

Remember, if it grows, it goes! Breads, dairy

foods, meat, bones, eggs, fruit and vegetable

scraps, tea bags and coffee grounds, tissues,

paper bags and hair can all go in the counter

top bin and then out to the green waste bin for

collection.
