ARRIVAL OF H.M.A.S. TORRENS.

The H.M.A.S. Torrens arrived on 17th March,and is

now used as a training- ship for the members of the Royal

Naval Reserve.

ARRIVAL OF H.M.A.S. ADELAIDE.

The H.M.A.S. Adelaide, in command of Captain

Massey, arrived at Port Adelaide on 4th November,and

remained until the 13th November.

SEMAPHORE CARNIVAL.

It has been decided by the committee of the Sema

phore Carnival to hold a festival in Januar}', 1926.

The year just ended has been an eventful period,

as the Soldiers' Memorial was unveiled on Sunday, 24th

May (Empire Day) b}- Dr. Betts (President of the R.S.

and S., Semaphore Branch).

COUNTRY PICNICS TO SEMAPHORE BEACH.

That our beaches at Semaphore and Largs require

no booming is evidenced by the fact that during the

season (a])art from the huge number of ])eople who make

daily visits) eleven large picnics from districts attached

to the following country centres have journeyed to the

Semaphore: Auburn. Tarlee. Clare, Morgan, Aldgate,

Eudunda,»Wasleys, .A.ngaston. Tanunda, Nuriootpa, and

Gawler: appro.ximately 10,000 folks from these centres

have attended. It was my duty and pleasure to welcome

each picnic, and to place the Council's equipment at the

visitors' disposal. Everything was done to make the

visits enjoyable, and the beach officer was in attendance

on each occasion.

"All our \'isitors are eulogistic in proclaiming the

beach to be the safest, both for children and adults.

The Council's policy of beach improvements is most

progressive. Largs Bay is fortunate in having an

enthusiastic Progres.sive Association of its own. which
