RF,SERVES.

Tlie number of reserves in our City is a tribute to

tlie foresight of previous Councils: their present upkeep

reflects credit u])on the City Engineer and his capable

staff. Many eulogistic references have been made by

those whose pleasure it is to visit our city to the pro

vision made for children and elders. So man}'- open

spaces are conducive to better environment and a higher

civic life.

CHILDREN'S PLAYGROUND.

An enthusiastic committee has been formed at

Albertoii and Queenstown for the purpose of transform

ing a portion of one of the plantations adjacent to the

Port Road into a Children's Playground. The committee

appreciate the approval given by the Port Adelaide City

Council to the movement, which, though still in the

pioneering stage, is making good progress. Promises by

prominent citizens and others have been made in regard

to equipment, and it is hoped that ere long the opening

ceremony will take place.

FIRE FLOAT.

A new fire float which has been ordered by the Fire

Brigades Board should be ready in the new year, and

will be of inestimable value to this important seaport.

Matters pertaining to a new Post Office at Port

Adelaide have not progressed as their importance

demands. The Federal and State Governments have not

yet agreed on a definite policy, and until that can be

brought about we still have to direct our visitors to the

time-worn structure that bears the departmental name.

It is not in keeping with the improvement of the City to

retain an antiquated building that is partially incapable
