WELCOME TO LORD AND LADY

STONEHAVEN.

Landiii}? from the s s. Nestor at the Outer Harbor

on 7th October, the Governor-General elect (Lord

Stonehaven), Lady Stonehaven and family, were

accorded a civic welcome, and an illuminated address

was presented on behalf of the citizens.

May it please Your Lordship,—

We, the Mayor and Corporation of the City

of Port Adelaide, on behalf of the citizens,

extend to you a hearty welcome,and appreciate

the honor of your being the first Governor-

General Designate to make the initial landing

at Port Adelaide, the third most important

port in the Commonwealth.

We welcome you as the chosen representative

of His Most Gracious Majesty, King George

v., who, with his illustrious consort. Queen

Mary,enjoys the devotion and loyalty of all his

subjects.

We congratulate Your Lordship and Lady

Stonehaven on your safe arrival, and,in extend

ing to you and the members of your family a

sincere welcome to our shores, trust your

sojourn and theirs in Australia will be both

happy and enjoyable.

We look forward to your advent to the Com

monwealth with hope and pleasure, and feel

convinced that your administration of the

affairs of this Commonwealth will be beneficial

to the Empire, and especially to this portion of

His Majesty's Dominions.
