Sir,—I have the honor to present my annual report
on the City's Public Health for the year ending Novem
ber 30th, 1924.
POPULATION.
This was estimated by the Registrar-General of
Births and Deaths on the 31st December, 1924, as 32,225.
The following birth and death rates are estimated on
these figures and not on the mean population for the
year.
BIRTHS.
Births for the year within the City were 721, a de
crease of 9 under the previous year.
The average per 1,000 of population was 22.37, a de
crease of .34 per 1,000 under the previous year.

The excess of births over deaths 328.
DEATHS.
Deaths for the year were 393; of these 301 occurred
v/ithin the City, 67 at the Adelaide Hospital, 9 at the
Adelaide Children's Hospital, 9 at Mareeba Babies' Hos
pital and 7 at the Parkside Mental Hospital: total 393.
The average per 1,000 of population was 12.19, an
increase of 1.43 above the previous year.
